at the Dunn County Museum in Dunn Center
Feel free to come later than 5PM if that works better; David will be there at least two hours.
No meetings in November and December 2024.
Monthly meetings resume in January 2025, weather permitting.
**If weather is unsafe for travel, meeting will be cancelled – please check with leader before driving if it’s snowing or extremely cold.
Topic:
PRESERVATION – PART 2
Members were asked to pick subjects to research, and continue to share info on, at the upcoming meeting.
Selected topics to be covered this time are:
How to store a wedding dress; how to organize family keepsakes and collections,
how to care for common types of heirlooms; family papers: what to keep / what to toss.
Lots of learning opportunities at this meeting! : )
Recap of the October Meeting
Preservation – Part 1
Topic was preservation with members doing short presentations on how best to care for certain items
including sports memorabilia, quilts, old letters & documents, newspapers, children’s artwork, & digital media.
We also watched an informative video which covered similar subjects.
Recap of August and September Meetings
The topic for both months was “All Things German”.
In August, members were asked to bring German food to share,
along with a recipe so a small cookbook could be compiled. We enjoyed an amazing buffet that night!
(See photos posted at the bottom of this page.)
Many handouts were provided both months as aid to finding both German & Germans from Russia ancestors.
In September, we watched a video produced by ND PBS about Germans from Russia and their settlement in North Dakota.
Recap of the July Meeting
With David’s expertise, we continued using Family Search to look up info in census records,
as well as some folks were able to locate family member’s draft cards, and other military records.
David shared some family memories and encouraged others to share theirs.
Recap of the June Meeting:
We looked up our own families in the 1950 census records for practice.
We explored our culinary heritage and how that relates to genealogy.
We are collecting old family recipes.
David and Vicki and other members of the group provided Scandinavian snacks!

There are many resources at the museum, including over 100 years of Dunn County newspapers,
an extensive Oral History collection, many homestead records, a library with local history books,
photos and other archived memorabilia, making this the logical place to meet.
The museum welcomes additions to this collection if you are willing to share any family memorabilia!

Folks are welcome to do genealogy research here during those hours.
