New Additions to the Collection
We are adding history to our collection monthly! To see listings of recently acquired items, please go to the “Museum Committee” box on our “Home” page and click on the button. This will bring you to postings of recent minutes, which include coverage of newly accessioned items.
If you are interested in permanently donating an item to the Dunn County Museum, please use the “Contact Us” form on this website, or give us a call. Meetings of the Museum Committee are generally held monthly. This group is tasked with deciding on the acceptance of additions to our collection, based on historical significance to Dunn County, and space availability, among other considerations. We welcome your interest in supporting our growing exhibits!
We are hoping to add more local school yearbooks / annuals to the collection. We can safely scan and return a book if you do not wish to permanently donate it. These items are often requested by visitors looking for family history. Please call the museum during open hours if you can help us out! Thank you!
Temporary Exhibits - Items on Loan
SUMMER 2026
We have two special exhibits that will run through early October 2026. The folks at the Dressler Ranch have graciously loaned us photos, a saddle, a branding iron, census records and much more documenting the 140-year history of their operation in Dunn County. For our 50th Anniversary, we also have temporary displays about the history of the Dunn County Early Settlers organization and the transition to the Dunn County Historical Society in 1976. Lots of photos are available for browsing showing DCHS events, museum construction, & changes over the years. We hope you’ll come check these exhibits out before they’re gone!
Please note:
We have revised our loaned item guidelines. Over the next year, we will be phasing out long term loans, but we will consider taking special items on short term loan. These objects will receive extra publicity and will be featured in an area dedicated to changing exhibits. If you have something you would like to share with museum visitors this way, please contact us! These changes have been recommended by the State Historical Society to streamline record keeping, allowing for a wider range of temporary displays, and limit insurance liability issues.
For temporary exhibits going forward, we are especially interested in highlighting farm & ranch history from other long term operations in the county, or local businesses that have been vital in our communities. If you have a collection of belt buckles, models, dishes, memorabilia, etc. that you’d be willing to loan, we’re also interested in featuring those! We’d really appreciate any community help with this! : )
